Tell My Story
Montezuma's Romantic Revenge

I went to Mexico with my ex-boyfriend and two other couples. We went to San Miguel, a small and very romantic mountain town. During the day we did fun “Couple” things. Horseback riding, long lunches, lounging by beautiful pools. At night we went to romantic restaurants and had wonderful candlelight dinners. I was living in a dream world and was so happy to return there with my new boyfriend who I was so very much in love with.
Little did I know that this “Romantic” destination was a curse! On day three I was with my boyfriend in the main town square. We just happened to “Bump” into his ex…who just happened to be visiting her parents from Dallas. We awkwardly greeted each other, commented on the weather, and walked away. I knew it right then that there was still really strong feelings between them. I was so upset but was determined not to let it ruin our vacation. Instead of addressing it and being dramatic, I ignored it, hoping it would just go away. They had dated for three years before we got together and had been broken up for about seven months when we began dating. He hadn’t spoken to her since the split.
Needless to say, within weeks of returning from our trip to Mexico, he confessed that he still had feelings for his ex. They had started talking again after our little run-in. By the end of the month, I was history. They are now engaged and planning to wed in that cute little town.
I wasn’t the only one of my friends screwed by that vacation. My other friend and her husband filed for divorce within six months of returning. We now joke that Montezuma’s revenge has a completely different meaning.
