I was with this girl for about one year. She started demanding to know where this was heading. She became obsessed with the future. Every conversation became about kids, houses, where we wanted to live, jobs etc. My formerly cool girlfriend turned into a desperate housewife in the making. I looked for the easiest exit and took it. I wasn’t ready for that, or maybe just not for her… or her accent and social smoking habit for the rest of my life. I don’t feel good about keeping the latest gift, especially since we still hang out with the same people. It wouldn’t be a gentlemanly thing to do to use her gift to attract the next, especially if it happens to be while we are at the same bar.
